The race attracts a huge field and currently there are 41 entries, though there are half a dozen horses that top the list with very little to differentiate between them. The six are Tell Massini, Restless Harry, Shinrock Paddy, Enterprise Park, The Betchworth Kid and although there is considerable variation in the odds between different bookmakers (for instance bet365 is offering 5/1 on Quel Esprit whilst 10/1 is available from Paddy Power) they are all very similarly priced.
Tell Massini is an acclaimed Irish horse which has won his previous four races. These include the Albert Bartlett Novices Trial which was run at Cheltenham three months ago.
Restless Harry won at the course in January and also finished well in the Neptune Investment Management Novices Hurdle. He is a good stayer and this Novices Hurdle could be his ideal distance.
The Betchworth Kid has also been showing good form. Again this is a horse with plenty of stamina and one which is said to perform well in fast paced races.
Shinrock Paddy, obviously Irish, is also thought to have excellent chances and his form, which includes winning at Navan, has been improving steadily.
Enterprise Park is another Irish horse with a big following. Originally he was considered to be a good outside bet, but odds have shortened on him recently.
Quel Esprit, another horse who is able to stay the course, might also be in with a chance depending on events.
With such a big field and novice horses there is much that can go wrong and it is a hard race to call especially with six horses priced as closely as these. Certainly it will be one of the highlights of Day 4 on which there is also the Gold Cup to look forward to.

The 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase will feature Paul Nicholls’ brilliant Master Minded going after his third consecutive win in the festival’s 2 mile chase highlight.
2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase Race Favourites
1. Master Minded:
There’s not much to say about Master Minded that hasn’t been said already. In a class of his own over 2 miles, Master Minded comes into the 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase having last failed to place in a race in 2007. Master Minded did have a brief stumble at Cheltenham in November, when he finished a disappointing third to Well Chief in the Connaught Chase, but rediscovered his best form to take Game Spirit Chase by thirteen lengths. His 4/5 price at Betfred is matched by most major bookies.
2. Kalahari King
Ferdy Murphy’s Kalahari King comes in second in the betting. This entry boasts a good record over fences, having placed in every start in chases during his career. His biggest win over fences was in Aintree’s Maghull Novices’ Chase, and he’s yet to show true Grade 1 class. The fact that he finished second in last year’s Arkle Challenge Trophy doesn’t bode well for his prospects of beating Master Minded in the 2010 Champion Chase. He’s available at a best price of 5/2 at Betfred.
3. Twist Magic
Twist Magic is a classy horse but has never come good at Cheltenham. 2010 will be Paul Nicholls’ entry’s third shot at winning the Queen Mother Champion Chase, a race he failed to finish in 2009. His recent form has been pretty impressive, taking consecutive Grade 1 wins in the Victory Chandler Chase and the Tingle Creek Chase. He’s on offer at 7/1 at Paddy Power and is the stand-out each-way bet for the 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase.
Long Shots
Our long shot option for the 2010 Queen Mother Champion Chase is none other than David Pipe’s Well Chief. While this horse hasn’t been in the best form of late, failing to place in his last race, it’s hard to ignore his second place in the 2009 Queen Mother Champion Chase and even harder to ignore the fact that he became one of the few horses to beat Master Minded at the Connaught Chase on the 15th of November. At odds of 33/1 at Paddy Power he’s a great prospect for a place in this race.
